The PM's gesture was genuine. He is the first Malaysian Prime Minister (in office) to visit Gaza. Malaysia is a peaceful country and we enjoy a high status among the Non Aligned Nations of the world as well as among the Islamic countries. The PM's visit to Gaza therefore helps focus the world's attention and lends weight to all efforts to resolve the conflict in the Middle East in a peaceful manner.
Malaysians are also channeling humanitarian aid to Gaza and are also funding a school for the children of Gaza. Our humanitarian commitment has been good - considering that we are a small country and we are so far away.
The Prime Minister of Malaysia has NOT called for the destruction of Israel. That is not our way of doing things. Neither is Malaysia in the habit of providing military aid to the countries in the area that are in conflict with each other. I hope this remains the case forever. Guns and weapons dont always solve complicated problems.
However since the Middle East is such a complicated ketle of fish, the response and reception towards anything is very subjective.
The foreign Press has reported that President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority has condemned PM Najib's visit to the Gaza. The following is taken from Reuters as well as other Middle East news media.

- The high-level visits under the nose of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his Fatah movement in the West Bank underscore bitter divisions between the rival Palestinian movements despite efforts by Egypt to forge a reconciliation.
- (PM) Najib's visit drew a stern rebuke from Abbas, who has not set foot in Gaza since his forces fought and lost a civil war against Hamas there in 2007.
- "The Palestinian presidency rejects and denounces the visit ... and believes it undermines the representation of the Palestinian people," his office said in a statement. "It enhances division and does not serve Palestinian interests."
- Abbas and his Fatah allies have renounced armed struggle against Israel and favor a negotiated peace but have failed to draw high-level Arab and Muslim leaders to Muslim holy sites in occupied East Jerusalem.

The Palestinian Authority or PA is in a very complicated position. The PA only has authority in the West Bank. The PA in the West Bank is the successor to the famous Fatah group of Yasser Arafat. They have now renounced the armed struggle against Israel and seek peaceful solutions.
In the elections (2007??) Hamas defeated Fatah in the Gaza. They promptly shot and killed Fatah's people. In one incident alone 42 Fatah people were shot dead. The bad blood between Hamas and Fatah therefore continues unabated. Abbas has not set foot in the Gaza since then. Neither is he very welcome. He will probably get shot too if he goes to the Gaza.
Abbas in the West Bank claims to represent all the Palestinian people. Obviously the Hamas dont give a hoot about Abbas' claims. As far as Hamas is concerned the only leader of the Palestinians now is Ismail Haniyeh who lives in the Gaza.
The Hamas was spawned from the Salafi Muslim Brotherhood which now rules Egypt. Hence PM Najib entered the Gaza from Egypt through the Rafah crossing - with the blessing of the new Egypt.
After Hamas won the Gaza elections, Hosni Mubarak promptly closed the Rafah crossing. Please recall that just three years ago, a member of a Malaysian humanitarian delegation to Gaza was arrested by the Egyptians (under Hosni Mubarak) at the same Rafah crossing. and held in jail. Our PM's wife Rosmah Mansor had to make a personal appeal to the wife of President Hosni Mubarak to get the boy released.
Arab politics is very, very complicated. And confusing. We have to tread very carefully when dealing with the Arabs. They always have many sides to any story. Whichever side we listen to, we cannot avoid taking sides.
The Prime Minister has taken the right path by focussing on humanitarian aid, especially for the children who are the biggest victims in any conflict.

Syed,
Saya tak bijak sgt perihal politik. Tetapi sy nmpak ini ibarat propaganda politik bangang. Who da fack cares? It's Gaza, not Kelantan my hometown.
UMNO fackers, the champion of Malays, denied asistance to that state until today ... even withholding billions of petro money .. tepati binate apo?
Budu kepala bu**h awak bodo. Awak pi tanya pas parti anak s**dal lah. 20 tahun dia korek punkok awak tak sedar ke? Bu**h.

ANJING.
that is what precisely PAS people are. ynroth
@Budu...,
I am least surprised that your brain is just like 'BUDU' and after reading you comment, I feel sorry for you.
Listen...,listen...,listen..., where are all the federal allocation given to the state govt. for development every year without fail?. Now after more than 20 years not even a single new mosque being built by the party who claim to champion Islam. Your Nicky had confirmed this. The PRIDE of your Nicky is only the biggest sleeping Buddha in Asia located at Tumpat.
Listen...,listen...,listen..., WTF both Ngor & Ngeh getting thousands of acres of land from the good hearted Nicky making many Kelantanese including you ternganga-nganga!!!.
More to come....
Budu,
Buat apa ler sibok2 negeri orang, Pee Emm nih. Negara sendiri pun tunggang terbalik.
Mamak Tua Nak Mampuih (MTNM) mulut berbuih, merepek, kacau daun sana sini, brader Pee Emm kita pun xleh nak wat aper2. Mungkin xtau nak control MTNM, Pee Emm pi melawat Palestine ..
Opps, nanti sat, bukan ka MTNM dah champion org Palestine selama ini?
Sdra Budu,
Kat blog Kickdefella tu skrg byk artikel terkini psl royalti petrolium yg Husam dok gaduh sgt, pi le sdra berdebat kat sana.
Tak usahle sdra per budu hkan diri kat artikel ini mcm orang Pas pis pus.
Better go ask your munafik tok guru. Of all the minerals dug up by all the taukey cina, yep, the gold, the ores, the timbers, the whatever shitnot that comes from Kelantan's ground, how much has gone into state government coffer's? And you want to claim oil royalti rights from sea which is already in the international waters? Now wonder Kelantanese had to cari makan outside Kelantan because your tok guru only cares about his morning sermon and how best to segregate woman from man in supermarket.
Syed, it's good of you to provide some background to that region's conflict.
It's probably not surprising if many people have tuned out the troubles that are roiling that region because the problems there seem to have been going on for so long that many feel absolutely worn down by it all.
Let us say if the bible were to be taken as a historical document of sorts then it would appear like the people in that region have been tearing into each other almost without a break from the time of Abraham down to the present day!
Good strategy and display of priorities. Since you can't solve any of the important issues at home, try and solve the global issues of another country.
Like a 10 year old kid who can't even clean his room, but wants us to believe that he can clean the town.

Looks like waded into some s@*t big time. The Palestinian political minefield is where even angels fear to tread. No more Abd Razak Baginda around to advise him, what ? What say you unspinners ? Care to put a positive spin on this misadventure ?

I think the inability to be compassionate, unselfish and considerate which in some way are the hallmark of a being called human, maybe more to monkeys. I don't have the ability nor the financial strength to impact charitable and humanitarian act too far away from my home. so I do it at the home, office and wherever it allows me. My poiint is that I do my part...When the Malaysian government can do it in Palestine rather than ignore it like most of the wealthy nation in the world, am grateful for that, ..nobody can be anywhere and everywhere, similarly if only Kelantan is in anyone mind, then I suggest do your part then in Kelantan..and do more and more..
For Malaysian to be able to call themselves a Malaysian and proud, let's get past state level, jaguh kampung level and push our border mentally that is past our geographical shores...I use to be travelling overseas where everywhere when you announced you are from Malaysia..they would recognize Malaysia with Mahathir...that is to me an achievement by a Malaysian..not a Kedahan, not a Mamak..not a Doctor...just Malaysian full stop. I don't think anyone should be aiming for now for us to be recognized at international front as the country just next to Singapore
Anor point is tis kelantanese shr similar DNA wt those across d border in Thailand -a rebellious lot. Those Thai muslims bordering Kedah, Perlis & Perak are peace loving. So u can see blood letting every now & then in Thailand bordering Kelantan for many more years to come until & unless ostads promising heaven & martyrdom are wiped off.
very tired, what is new? one moment hamas and Fatah abang-adik, next moment fight like dogs, it keep exchanging role,- peace, then fight, peace again, then fight again
