Malaysian Minority Races' Share Of Wealth Decreasing

  • Hong Kong-based Robert Kuok has maintained his position as Malaysia's richest man with a wealth of RM45.7 billion, despite a 8.0 per cent drop in his fortune.
  • Followed by T Ananda Krishnan and Public Bank's Tan Sri Teh Hong Piow.
  • Ananda Krishnan narrowed the gap with Kuok with a wealth of RM42.99 billion, but it was down by about 6.0 per cent this year, from 2011.
  • Teh had a fortune that has remained relatively intact at RM12.64 billion, a one per cent decline from before.
  • IOI Corporation Bhd’s Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng maintained fourth spot. Despite a 10.8 per cent fall in his worth to RM11.36 billion, IOI Corp's Lee Shin Cheng maintained his fourth position
  • Flamboyant AirAsia chief executive officer, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes was ranked as the 15th most richest Malaysian with a weath of RM1.77 billion.
  • The richest mamak entrepreneur in the country is Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Albukhary who came in fifth, according to Malaysian Business in a report on the 40 richest Malaysians.
  • Syed Mokhtar of the Albukhary Foundation -- whose flagship is the DRB-Hicom Group-- saw his wealth grow by 8.0 per cent to RM9.53 billion.
  • Read more: Robert Kuok still Malaysia's richest man
Oh no. Robert Kuok's wealth dropped by 8% to RM45.7 Billion. How is his family going to survive on a measly RM45.7 Billion? The BR1M payments are still available. Can someone please fill up a form for him - the poor man. Maybe that priest, the not so reverend Jean-Claude Van Damn at the Assumption Church in PJ can help.

Ananda Krishnan's wealth is down by 6% to RM42.99 Billion.  Folks, how are they going to survive? Can he afford the monthly travel expenses - you know the private jet plane, the luxury yacht and all that? Lets do something to help all these poor people.

And even Tony Fernandez is only ranked at 15th placing with wealth of RM1.77 Billion. Well just wait till a few more of you are given the run around by Air Asia five minutes before take-off. All the money Tony saves from the fuel that was not burnt  because you missed your flight may help bump Tony Fernandez into the Top 10 wealthiest Malaysians.

Folks I think Tony will be ok.  Its Robert Kuok and Ananda Krishnan that I am really worried about.  Poor guys, they have lost 8% and 6% of their billions respectively.

I say where are the Melayus ok? Syed Mokhtar is just one Uttar Pradesh mamak who has made it into the list. Where are the other Melayus on the list.  I think this is quite unfair - there are few or no Melayus on the list.

One of your readers asked about the Daim proteges. That is a good question - what happened to the favoured sons ?

And how come Tun Daim is not on the list ?

But to put things in perspective, both Robert Kuok, Ananda Krishnan & Teh are at least in their late 70s, if not older. They amassed their fortune over a long period of time and took risks and succeeded.

Tuan Syed, you were a banker before and you would know that these 3 entities were considered good risks by the banking community in your time, compared to some of the Daim proteges. There must be something that sits well with the bankers other than ethnicity. Perhaps its the 3 Cs ?

We Melayus, do not care less if any of us are listed or not. If there is any among us who seems to have a chance getting there, we will try to bring him down, any way we can. However, we are proud Muslim in Islamic Malaysia and we would rather die a martyr, in preserving it as such. We look forwards the eternal life in heaven. If a politician, in the form of religious gurus, promise an easy ticket to heaven by voting them in this life, so be it.

Life in the real world seems unfair to us, anyway. We would rather make way for others races, except our own, to avoid conflicts and ill feelings. We are forbidden to run casinos, as Lim Goh Tong does, but we still says, 'tidak apa, itu haram bagi kita'. We are also prohibited to be involved in businesses such as;
- Empat Ekor outlet.
- Rumah Urut/Ayam.
- Liquor/alcoholic drinks.
- Along/usury related business, etc.
Even the entertainment business is unholy, because our men, even at their golden age, easily gets sexually aroused because of the 'ubat kuat' that we are famous of manufacturing. There seems too much haram things for us in this world. We hope all these haram things, many of them become halal, in the hereafter.

Our children too are not high achievers in the real world. We seems to teach and make them memorized Arabic texts that they do not digest. There are too many religious students who would later become religious gurus, that will divide us further apart. They might have their owns sets of mind, but not much opportunities to earn a living if the govt. do not provide for them such as Ustaz/ustazah in schools, prisons, arm-forces and now, govt. clinics/hospitals?

Pls dont call Syed Mokhtar mamak uttar pradesh. He is pure arab, pls respect the prophet descendent, he is a very good man, very honest, very humble emulate certain kind of prophet conducts. Allah swt had given him rich because he had returned what belong to Allah swt. I can assure you that Syed Mokhtar business assets and riches do not belong to him, and pass to his son, grandchildren or his generation, but he will return to the ummah, Muslim & Malay.

All I can see is racist statement written by you Mr Syed. You have to ask yourself why Malays are incompetence when comes to doing businesses not because they are not good it is because they are not as hardworking as the Chinese and Indians.

Salam all...i'm doing my MBA research on Malay entrepreneurship. I got access to scholar articles presented the actual facts about WHY MALAY HAS BEEN POOR AND INCOMPETENCE in BUSINESS TRADING.

Some articles can be accessed publicly and some not. Only through univ ID.

Largely due to the BRITISH "divide and rule" policy, keep Malay off the urban and modern commercial sectors. Encouraged Indian and Chinese came to do the rubber plantation and business to protect their bloody interest in economic and politics.

Because British saw how dangerous Malay would be if they advance in business, science and technology. So British rather cooperate with opportunists Chinese and Indian.

I give you one point from an article written by Edmund Terence Gomez,
The Rise and Fall of Capital: Corporate Malaysia in Historical Perspective, Faculty of Economics & Administration, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

"During British colonial rule, Malay involvement in the emerging capitalist economy was not encouraged. The British preferred that the Malays remained in
food production, primarily fish and rice. When Malay peasants tried to venture into modern commercial sectors, such as rubber production, the British blocked them by
imposing restrictive cultivation conditions on land (Lim, 1977). These early discriminatory policies in favour of British plantation interests severely limited the
potential development of indigenous capital and shackled Malays to low income economic activities. This colonial British impediment to the development of Malay capital became a justification for post-1969 policies that positively discriminated in favour of Malays.

If you google with keyword "Malay business history, entrepreneurship, historic economny in Malaysia" you will these not so shocking facts.

The fact is, many Chinese and Indian and lots of Malay too blindly blame Malay without dare to look at the history.

History is painful, indeed. For everyone. For Malay who once had golden age during Malaccan sultanate, Indian and Chinese who once were immigrants...

hope you can touch this subject someday.

Ananda quoted to say this' the saddest part of my life is ,i cant even buy a dinner for my son, he (a monk) prefer to beg for food'

Bill Gate quoted to say'.. 90% of my wealth will be given to charity'

Actually Melayus billions are with the gomen, that is why each year they received RM500 & maybe by next year if the billions increase they will get 1K. Beside that that a lot of Melayus invested their wealth in religious matter in exchage with "pahala" bcos in the "afterlife" they will get virgin angels & palaces & that is why the gomen will always take care of them in this present life...becos the gomen knew those Melayus are day dreaming all the time.

some are rag to riches stories, some are beneficiary of cronyism, some are 'quiet' personalities , amassing wealth thro proxies

btw, quote: 'one is born with nothing and die with zero'.., the wealth is good if it contributes to the well being of humanity

I think what Syed is trying to say here is very clear. Some of non-Malay (not all) always said that they are treated like 2nd class citizen, they got no help from govt, they have been denied of their so called rights etc. Which look like all of them are suffered and facing hardships in Malaysia.

but in reality is almost all, or majority of the richest malaysians are non-malay, despite they cried of these 'suffering' here in Malaysia.

so it is proof that any race here, malay or not can get any amount of wealth if they work harder. not a single race being oppressed/ suffering/ being treated unjustice in Malaysia actually.

yr MBA research paper worth yr salt, u think the british purposely excluded the malays from capitalist economy involvement and kept them poor? try explain why chinese dominate the commerce in Asean like thailand, indonesia, phillipine, singapore

Anonymous said...

actually, the malays own most of the wealth, the state land belongs to the malay rulers, most of the wealth is parked under GLCs and other trusts, institutions, only thing i agree is, the wealth is not distributed evenly among private individuals

Yes Tuan Syed,I always wonder why the non malays are complaining about the govt. They made their riches during the last 50 years no doubt through hard work and some risk taking. They have been left free to earn their riches in a stable and peaceful country.Their parents could go out and work and give them the best education.Yet I hate to say this, many of them now want to bite the hand that fed them in the last 50 odd years.I am Chinese by the way.
